Social scientists play pivotal role in national growth

Karachi: Karachi University (KU) VC Prof Dr. Mohammad Qaiser has said that present age is the age of social sciences and the role of social scientists is pivotal for national growth.

Social sciences play an important role in identifying societal issues and proposing their solutions. They give significant insight to the policy makers for future planning. Nobody can deny the significance of social sciences in current era but unfortunately they were not given due importance in the past, he said.

Speaking at the inaugural session of International Conference on Contemporary Social Sciences 2015 (ICCSS) organized by Faculty of Social Sciences University of Karachi Saturday, he said during last few decades a lot of significance is given to this field which is commendable.

Dr. Qaiser congratulated Dean Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Moonis Ahmar for successfully organizing this International Conference and added that this legacy must be followed in the years to come.

Prof. Dr. Hasan Askari said that social sciences was given the greater attention in the post 1945 period with the objective of better understanding of societal problems and providing advisory to the policy makers. The rise of religious extremism and terrorism has made it imperative to use the knowledge of social sciences to cope with these challenges.

Social Sciences have got prominence and promotion in the last decades but the plagiarism complaints are increased in Pakistan and plagiarism is indeed an intellectual dishonesty. HEC got the authority to formulate the criteria of PhD after 2002 while it’s the authority of the universities in all over the world. One’s biases must be controlled in order to unleash a path breaking social sciences research.

Dean Faculty of Social Sciences University of Karachi Dr. Moonis Ahmar welcomed all the International Speakers and guests and added that Social Sciences studies is a key to develop socio political framework of a society. A nations’ prosperity is dependent upon the role of research and academic process. Academic and professional culture must be inculcated in our universities and educational institutes and use of social sciences has become vital to deal with the current socio political challenges.

Chairperson Psychology Dept. KU Dr. Anila Ambar Malik said that social sciences are connected thoroughly with the society and societal issues in this regard this International Conference on Contemporary Social issues are the dire need of today.
