Karachi: Abdul Football Club recovered from 0-2 deficit to eventually record a thrilling 5-4 victory on penalty-kicks against Flames Football Club in the summit clash in the inaugural Tapal Football Cup here at Khayaban-e-Rahat Football Ground on Tuesday.
Flames FC took a 2-0 lead in the first half after Mohammad Faizan and Abdul Wahaj scored one goal each for the side. But Abdul FC made a strong comeback in the second half and drew the score-line 2-2 after Abdul Salam and Taha Rehman score one goal each.
The regulation time ended with the score locked at 2-2. Abdul FC players excelled in the penalty-kicks and finally recorded a 5-4 victory and annexed the title to their name.
Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Siddiqui was the chief guest during the closing ceremony of the tournament. Shoaib praised the players for their impressive efforts in the match.
“It is good to see healthy activities taking place in the city. Events like this will help players polish their skills and lift their game. Moreover, tournaments like this will help attract youngsters towards healthy activities,” he said.
He added that Pakistan has produced many renowned footballers in the past and the country has immense talent in the most played sport of the world.
“However, there is a need to have proper infrastructure and administration of the sport in the country,” Shoaib added.
Meanwhile, Director Sports Karachi South Asif Azeem on the occasion said that it is a good sign for football that there are academies for youngsters just like cricket.
“This will help in producing quality players in future,” he said. He assured that DMC South will help facilitate sports activities in the city in future as well.
