Sports: Athletics: Army, WAPDA clinches Athletics Championship

Karachi: Army clinched men’s championship while WAPDA women annexed the title to their name in the inaugural Lyallpur All Pakistan Athletics Championship, which concluded Sunday at Agricultural University Ground in Faisalabad.

Teams of all four provinces and of Islamabad, FATA, AJK, HEC, WAPDA, Railways, Air Force, Navy and Army participated in this tournament.

Army won 11 gold, 13 silver and seven bronze medals to top in the men’s event. Meanwhile, WAPDA secured second position with seven gold, four silver and eight bronze medals. PAF came third on the podium with a gold, three silver and as many bronze medals.

WAPDA clinched women’s championship securing 17 gold, nine silver and six bronze medals followed by Punjab, which won six silver and five bronze medals. Army secured third position with one gold, two silver and one bronze medal.

Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) organized this three-day championship.
