Karachi: Pakistan Tenpin Bowling Federation (PTBF) Secretary Ijaz-ur-Rehman announced that Pakistan national bowling team will participate in the World Bowling Championship to be held from December 2 to15 at Khalifa International Bowling Center at Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi.
Ijaz said that bowlers from a total of 134 countries would be seen in action during this mega bowling event.
The World Bowling Championship is held after every two years, first for men and then for women the following year.
“A total of six players will represent Pakistan in singles, doubles, trios and team events. The players are Ijaz-ur-Rehman, Mohammad Hussain Chatha, Fazil Mania, Ahmer Abbas Saldera, Sultan Durrani and Umar Khalid, while Saqib Shahzad would accompany the team as manager. (Pakistan Sports Board) PSB DG Dr Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera would be chef de mission,” he added.
Ijaz further said that Pakistan’s chances of performing well in the tournament were bright as Pakistani players have recently won GCC Tenpin Bowling Championship 2014 in Dubai.
“Our bowlers are fully prepared for the mega event. We are hopeful that our players would perform well and attain respectable positions in all the categories,” he said.
He added that PTBF would also be holding 8th National Championship from November 25 to 31 in Islamabad so as to give the players some good exposure and give them momentum ahead of the international action.
“During this national championship edition, services and other affiliated departments would take part for the very first time and lucrative cash prizes around Rs one million would be up for grabs,” he said.
