Sports: Football: Pakistan pulls victory against Afghanistan

Karachi: Pakistan football team pulled a narrow 2-1 triumph against visiting Afghanistan team after Saadullah scored an extra time goal in an international friendly football match at Punjab Football Stadium in Lahore on Friday.

Mohammad Riaz put Pakistan 1-0 up scoring in the 18th minute of the match on a cross given by Hassan Bashir. Pakistan maintained first half lead of 1-0.

Ameeruddin Sharifi pulled an equalizer for visitors scoring in the 56th minute. Both teams tried hard to score but their efforts went in vain.

However, when the match went in extra time, Hassan Bashir again assisted goal, which was executed perfectly by Saadullah in 91st minute.

President Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) Faisal Saleh Hayat and General Secretary Col Ahmed Yar Khan Lodhi congratulated Pakistani national team players and officials on team’s impressive triumph.

If international rankings were the only criteria to predict seedings then Afghanistan was clear favorites of the match since they are ranked at 142nd spot against Pakistan’s lowly 188th spot in international circuit.
