Chakwal: Federal minister for Inter Provincial coordination, Main Riaz Husain Pirzada visited Pakistan hockey team training camp for the preparations of Asian Games here on 6th May 2014, at the Naseer Bunda Hockey Stadium.
The purpose of the visit was to boost the morale of the players and also to check the facilities being provided to the players at the training camp.
17th Asian Games will be played at Incheon, South Korea from September 19. Thirty-seven players were selected through nationwide trials for the camp and were directed to report to head coach Shahnaz Sheikh at the Pakistan Sports Complex.
While speaking on the occasion, Federal Minister hoped that Pakistan would successfully defend its title in the Asians games and would also qualify for the Olympics. Moreover, these young and talented players would bring laurels to the country.
He added that junior players must took the advantage of this opportunity and improve their technical skills under the guidance of veteran coach like Shehnaz Sheikh.
Federal minister was also briefed about the different drills and entire training programme chalked out for improving the fitness level of the players by the head coach.
Minister also directed DG PSB, Akhtar Nawaz, to make sure that swimming pool and other facilities of the complex must be available to the players all the time.
“Hockey is our National Sports and being a hockey player myself, I take keen interest in it and it is my aspiration that Pakistan should rule the hockey world the way it used to be. There comes a sense of poignancy when watching the decline of standards of hockey in Pakistan,” he added.
President PHF Akhtar Rasool, DG Akhtar Nawaz, head coach Shehnaz Sheikh along with entire coaching staff was also present on the occasion.
