Sports: (National Powerlifting Championship starts today)

ISLAMABAD: National Powerlifting Championship will start today (Friday) at Punjab University, Lahore. Secretary General, Pakistan Olympic Association, Khalid Mehmood will be the chief guest and inaugurate the championship.

According to a press statement issued here on Thursday, Secretary General, Pakistan Powerlifting Federation, Mohammad Rashid Malik, said that nine men and women teams from all over Pakistan will take part in the championship.

The names of the teams are- Pakistan WAPDA, Pakistan Railway, Punjab, KPK, Sindh, Balochistan, Islamabad, FATA and AJA.

The Championship will continue till Feb. 8. The women event will be played in the first time in the history of the Pakistan. Pakistan WAPDA will defend the men title. He said that eight men and seven women categories competitions will be held during the event.

Men events are: 59Kg, 66 Kg, 74Kg, 83Kg, 93Kg, 105Kg, 105Kg, 120 Kg and above 120Kg. While Women events are: 47 Kg, 52Kg, 57Kg, 63Kg, 72Kg, 84Kg and above 84 Kg.
