Sports: (Pakistan No. 1 players win their respective matches)

ISLAMABAD:Pakistan No. 1 Aqeel Khan, M. Abid Ali Akbar, Yasir Khan, won their respective matches on the opening day of PTF Invitational Masters Tennis event here on the Hard Courts of Pakistan Sport Complex, Islamabad on Thursday.

Matches are being played on round robin basis, best of five sets, to provide the same competitive environment as that of Davis Cup, says a press release issued by the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) here on Thursday.

In the first match, Aqeel Khan beat Mohammad Abid in straight sets at score 6/3, 6/1, 6/2. Aqeel Khan was in supreme form and did not allow his opponent to settle down throughout the match. He took the first set at 6-3 by playing excellent game from baseline. He took the 2nd and 3rd sets quite easily at 6/1 and 6/2.

In the second match Yasir Khan also played excellent game of tennis and registered his victory against Asad Ali Siyyid a young lad from Canada.

It was evident that Asad had not fully recovered from stomach ailment since he came to Pakistan. Yasir took the advantage and won the first set at 6-3. In the second set Asad looked dehydrated and was unable to play his natural game. Yasir took the next two sets at 6/2, 6/1.

In the 3rd match of the day Mohammad Abid Ali Akbar beat Shahzad Khan at the score of 7-6 (2), 1-0 (retired). In the first set, the score reached 6 all as both the players held their respective service games. The set was decided on a tiebreak which was won by Abid Ali Akbar at 7-2.

In the second set Abid Ali Akbar was leading 1-0 when Shahzad Khan threw in the towel conceding the match in favor of Abid on medical grounds.

Mr. Salim Saifullah Khan, President PTF, was present during all the matches along with good number of spectators and tennis lovers. Mr. Khawar Hyat Khan, Senior Vice President, PTF, Mr. Mohammad Khalid Rehmani, Secretary, PTF, and Mr. Zulfiqar Rahim also witnessed the matches.

Results: Aqeel Khan beat M. Abid 6-3,6-1,6-2, Yasir Khan beat Asad Ali Siyyid 6-3,6-2,6-1, Abid Ali Akbar beat Shahzad Khan 7-6(2),1-0 Ret.
