ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tennis team has been finalized for the South Asian Games, which are scheduled to be held in India from February 6 to 16 this year in India.
The Pakistan Tennis Federation, after holding trials for five days, has finalized the tennis teams of men and women for the forthcoming South Asian Games, in Guwahati (Assam), India, which are scheduled to be held from February 6 to 16 this year.
Kh. Saeed Hai, Chairman selection committee announced the teams and said that Tennis Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles’ events are scheduled to be held from February 7 to 11 at Guwahati, on Plexipave (synthetic surface) hard courts.
Top-ranked seven men and 10 women players featured in the five days trials at the Pakistan Sports Board Plexipave courts. Former Davis Cupper Inam-ul-Haq was the Supervisor and Coordinator of these trials. Four men and an equal number of women players were selected for participation.
The following were selected after the trials: Men’s team:
Aisam-ul Haq Qureshi , Aqeel Khan (both exempted from trials), Yasir Khan, & Mohammad Abid Mushtaq. Rashid Malik will be the Captain-cum-Coach of the men’s team.
Women’s team: Sara Mansoor, Sarah Mahboob, Ushna Suhail and Iman Qureshi. Mohammad Khalid Siddique has been appointed as the Captain/Coach for this team. A coaching camp for both the teams has commenced at Bagh-e-Jinnah PLTA tennis courts in Lahore.
The Pakistan contingent is expected to leave for India on Feb 03, 2016.
