Sports: (PTF holds 2nd Kulsum Saifullah Khan National Ranking Tennis Championships – 2016, on January 18 to 24)

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) has announced holding of 2nd Kulsum Saifullah Khan National Ranking Tennis Championships – 2016, on January 18 to 24.

This Grade ‘1’ event will be the second version, sponsored by the Saif Group of Companies, the first one having been held in Jan 2015. As in last year, the tournament is expected to draw a large number of entries in most events, with Draws being held on January 17 and qualifying rounds starting on January 18, says a press release.

Rs. 500,000 ( almost 70 percent increase from last year which was Rs. 300000) has been announced as the gross prize money for the relevant categories, which are, Men’s Singles and Doubles, Ladies’ Singles, Boys 18 & Under, 14 & U, 10 & U, Seniors-Doubles Open 45 & above, and “Executive Seniors-Doubles” 60 and above.

However, in the 60+ category this year, to make the event more enjoyable and attractive to the many club players and the diplomatic/expat community in/around the twin cities, ‘no professional player’ would be allowed to participate nor would this category carry any prize money.

Last date of entry is Jan 16. All affiliated units of PTF and players have been asked to send entries to Shehzad Akhter Alvi, referee of the week long championship at Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex or e mail id.

All out station main draw singles players will get Rs. 700 as daily allowance until elimination from the day they play their first match, and in addition to that all juniors Singles main draw players will also be entitled to get economy class railway fare both way.
