Sports: Volleyball, Badminton, Basketball participation in international events doubtful

Karachi: Although the national players of volleyball, badminton and basketball are undergoing national training camp in Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Complex in Islamabad for upcoming Asian Games, Youth Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games but their participation is highly doubtful.

The Pakistan sports bodies of volleyball, basketball and badminton are not recognized by International Olympic Committee (IOC). IOC recognition is compulsory for participation of any national team in major international tournaments.

FIBA, the international body of basketball last year banned Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBBF) President Asif Bajwa, after he was appointed head of the POA Interim Committee, which had angered IOC as well. Asif had also been suspended by Olympic Council of Asia and federation could not enter its team at recently held South Asian Championships.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) is not affiliated with IOC recognized International Volleyball Federation. Pakistan Badminton Federation (PBF) is also not recognized IOC or International Badminton Federation.
