SSP forms committee to probe ‘encounter’

KARACHI: SSP West Ghulam Azfar Mahesar on Thursday set up a investigation committee for probing into a dubious police encounter in which to suspects were arrested in injured condition, after protest of families of suspects, in the metropolis.

According to details, the relatives of injured suspects held a protest demonstration outside the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where police had brought the suspects for treatment. They chanted the slogans against the fake police encounter.

Brother of arrested suspect, Shafique told PPI that his brother Fareed and his friend Zahir Hussain are worker of Coca-Cola Company and last night they were returning home after work, when Sher Shah police opened fire on them and arrested them in injured condition.

He further said that two bullets hit his brother and a bullet hit Zakir in foot. He alleged that no any weapon was found from both. We wanted justice and independent investigation of this dubious police encounter.

However, SHO Sher Shah, Ghulam Rasool Rajpar said that they had received information on police help line 15 about the presence of some robbers. After that a police party reached the spot under the supervision of ASI Shabeer. They saw two robbers busy looting people. When they saw police party they opened fire and tried to flee, but the police arrested them after rituality fire in injured condition and rushed them to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. However, after protest of their families the police brought them to the JPMC.

He claimed that police have also recovered two TT pistols from their possession.

On the other hand SSP West took notice of the protest and set up a committee for investigation in supervision of SP SITE Sajid Sadozai. The committee will present their findings within three days.
