Stagnant sewerage in College of Nursing causes environmental degradation

Karachi: Overflowing gutters in College of Nursing Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) need attention of authorities concerned and are posing serious threats to staff and students’ health.

A college official on condition of anonymity said sewerage system of the college was disturbed since last two weeks and collage administration had failed to maintain sewerage system despite the passage of two weeks.

He said sanitary staff drain out stagnant sewerage water on daily basis but failed to find a permanent solution to it. The staff and students are facing great hardship in this regard.

Source said overflowing sewerage water in Collage of Nursing and main entrance of JPMC had caused great nuisance for not only to staff and students but also to visiting patients. The JPMC administration was not taking the matter seriously, he said.

He said it seemed that the JPMC administration had turned blind eyes over the issue as no any step of sanitation of stagnant sewerage water has been taken so for.

He said choked sewerage water was posing serious risk of spread of malaria and other vector diseases among staff member and visiting patients. He said college administration brought the issue into notice of JPMC high-ups on various occasion for disposing of sewerage.

He said sewerage water also accumulated in ground situated in nursing hostel causing serious problems to staff nurses.

Joint Executive Director and In-charge Emergency Department Dr Seemi Jamali was not available on phone despite several attempts.
