Steel Mills employees demo for salaries

KARACHI: Pakistan Steel Labor Union (PSLU) held a protest demonstration on Saturday outside the Karachi Press Club against non-payment of their salaries and proposed privatization of Pakistan Steel Mills.

The protestors were carrying placards and banners, raising slogans against the government privatization policy.

Addressing the protest, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chapter Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said Government and Ministry of Finance should take serious steps for running this vital national institution. He said steel mill was a national institution and government should take special measures for helping it to stand on its own feet. He said government should restrain privatization of mill and workers should be paid their three-month salaries so that they could run their homes. Steel Mills management should stop issuing show cause notices to the employees who were demanding their salaries.

Rehman said NAB and FIA should perform their responsibilities and arrest those elements who looted the steel mills.

General Secretary PSLU Zafar Khan warned if government failed to take step to run the mills immediately then they will extend their protest till Islamabad.
