KARACHI: Provincial Minister for Food and Health Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar has taken serious notice of the news regarding increase in flour prices.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, he said that profiteers mafia making lame excuse of imposing 20% regulatory duty trying to increase flour prices but Sindh food department would take strict action against profiteers and get the people rid of these elements.
He said that 6.5 lac metric tones wheat had been imported from Russia and Ukraine without regulatory duty. Besides this 12 lac metric tones wheat were in government godowns while private sector had six lac metric tones wheat. He added: “Only 12 to 13 lac metric tones of wheat is needed for the province for next three to four months and there is 24 lac metric tones wheat, including imported wheat of Russia and Ukraine, which is available in the province. In this situation, “there is no need of increasing flour prices and if it happens it will be unjust and against the people of Sindh.”
Provincial minister for food and health warned the profiteers to avoid increasing flour prices, otherwise strict action would be taken against them. He also directed all Commissioners and district administration to take immediate action against the profiteers.
