NAUNDERO: On the call of Shehri Action Committee (SAC), a complete shutterdown strike was observed by the citizens against 16-hour electricity load shedding on daily basis, here on Tuesday.
A sixth class student, Rafaqat Ali, fainted in this hot weather amid power load shedding. The protesters announced that the town will not open till their demand is accepted. They held a protest demonstration, took out a rally and staged a sit-in in front of Naundero Grid Station. The youth burnt tyres and blocked all entry points of the town and nobody was allowed to go out or come in.
All shops, bazaars, medical, and general stores were closed in the protest and even pushcart vendors suspended their daily business and participated in the protest. Citizens, irrespective of their party affiliations, gathered at municipal roundabout in very large number and started marching towards Naundero Grid Station. They were chanting slogans against step-motherly treatment of federal and provincial governments with them.
They reached in front of Grid Station where tents were already erected. The arrangements for drinking water have also been made amid hot weather. They staged sit-in and held a protest demonstration here.
Ghulam Hyder Narejo, Maulana Abdul Qudoos Panhwar, Javed Bhutto, Waryam Channo, Sahab Khan Shaikh, Mumtaz Sethar, Asadullah Bhutto, Salim Channo, Manzoor Mirani, Amanullah Bhutto and others, belonging to as many as 15 political, social welfare, literary, trade, and labour organizations told media that Naundero town has 80,000 population and it is being deprived of electricity right by the SEPCO authorities as SEPCO officers had divided it into two feeders without consulting end users and connected several surrounding villages with its feeder-2 only which was injustice with the citizens.
They said: “Their sit-in will continue till single feeder is provided to Naundero and load shedding is reduced between 6 to 8 hours a day. They said that presently power is restored just for two hours after every four hours shutdown, which is inhuman act.”
