SU organizes free hepatitis camp

KARACHI: The department of Physiology, University of Sindh, organized a free medical camp at Under Graduate Girls Hostel to test blood of female students and general public for hepatitis B and C.

During the two-day camp blood samples of 600 girls and female students were collected which included 400 female students and 200 women of the vicinity of Jamshoro district.

According to the report issued by Prof. Jaindo Shaikh, the coordinator of medical campus, the blood samples were examined through chip testing and confirmed by Enzyme Linked Immuno Sorbent Assay method in the department’s cell and tissue culture /molecular biology laboratory.

The findings of tests under random screening showed 36 ladies were suffering from hepatitis B & C virus positive (6 per cent). The final year students of physiology department who participated in the camp to test blood samples include Abdul Qayoom, Nasrullah Dahri, Javed Shaikh, Vijesh Kumar, Zuhaib Khaskheli, Shuaib Ahmed Mallah, Altaf Rind, Maswish Samo, Mashal Khan Sindhiyani, Lubna Shaikh and Sabiha Rajput.
