LARKANA: Health Department’s Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) has planned Supplementary Immunization Activities (SIAs) in Sindh province from 24 to 26 November 2014 under which 3,683,298 under five children will be immunized in this activity.
In a letter addressed to all the District Health Officers (DHOs), Deputy Commissioners (DCs) & Taluka Health Officers (THOs) of Karachi, except Malir & Liyari towns, the EPI Project Director, Dr Mazhar Ali Khamisani, said that in Karachi, 16 towns, 97 Union Councils and 846,655 children would be immunized alone whereas in 11 districts of interior Sindh, 169 union councils and 1,151,169 children will be immunized during the planned campaign.
These High Risk Union Councils (HRUCs) of 12 districts from Central & North Sindh include 28 HRUCs from four districts of Central Sindh including Umerkot, Sanghar, Benazirabad and Matiari. 141 HRUCs from seven districts of North Sindh including Larkana, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Sukkur, Khairpur and Ghotki.
In Dadu, planned districts include Dadu, 36 HRUCs of Naushehro Feroze and 14 HRUCs of Kambar bordering Dadu and the planned target is 624,554 children. In Badin, planned target is 1,060,920 during phase-I and include eight district of Sindh including Badin, Hyderabad and HRUCs only from Jamshoro, Thatta, Tando Mohammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Mirpurkhas and Tharparkar.
The target of each district include 54 UCs of Hyderabad in which 311,793 children will be immunized, 9 UCs of Matiari 74,058, 7 UCs of Tando Mohammad Khan 57,522, 8 UCs of Tando Allahyar 68,743, 46 UCs of Badin 338,014, 23 UCs of Thatta 127,731, 53 UCs of Dadu 320,989, 8 UCs of Jamshoro 64, 321, 7 UCs of Mirpurkhas 50,711, 8 UCs of Tharparkar 42,085, 6 UCs of Umerkot 52,184, 7 UCs of Sanghar 45,886, 6 UCs of Benazirabad 44,607, 36 UCs of Naushehro Feroze 208,938, 38 UCs of Khairpur 236,576, 11 UCs of Sukkur 78,300, 20 UCs of Ghotki 173,385, 17 UCs of Shikarpur 88,926, 18 UCs of Jacobabad 107,790, 23 UCs of Kashmore 140,457, 14 UCs of Kambar 94,627 and 14 UCs of Larkana 109,000.
In this way 433 Union Councils will be covered and 2,836,643 children will be immunized. All the above DHOs and THOs have been directed to start campaign preparations as per NEAP guidelines and have technical assistance from WHO/UNICEF in this regard.
