Teachers hold protest demo

KARACHI: All Sindh Primary Teachers Association Karachi (ASPTA) Division chapter on Saturday held a protest demonstration, demanding of Secretary Education Fazlullah Pechuho. They also observed a token hunger strike outside the Karachi Press Club against alleged corruption in the education department.

The protestors, carrying placards and banners, shouted slogans against the education secretary.

Talking to PPI Central President ASPTA’s Liaquat Haider, President Karachi division Shabir Ahmed Jamro, Vice President Aziz Ahmed Laghari and General Secy Krishan Gopal Walecha demanded the removal of Pechuho, alleging he was committing excess of powers and creating convenience for teachers.

Liaquat Haider said two months ago they had demanded for Secretary Education for calling a meeting to resolve the issues of teachers like time scale, promotions, medical allowances, and the issuance of salaries of Sindh University and National Testing Service (NTS) pass candidates, doing their jobs in different schools of Sindh but due to his negative attitude not a single teacher or employee could got legal benefit.

Putting some demands, he said the intervention of NGOs in education sector should be stopped, specific budget should be released to schools, vacant post should be filled on seniority basis, teachers should be promoted according their qualification and quota system should be restored.

He warned that if these demands were not met than the association will observe huge strike on 3rd September 2015 outside the Karachi Press Club in which teachers from whole Sindh will participate.
