JAMSHORO: The teachers should be fully prepared before going to the class for teaching and should not entre the class rooms with old culture of taking notes with them.
“There is dearth of eligible officers in Sindh education ministry which causes destruction of primary education in the province. The workshops and seminars contribute a lot towards updating and exchange of knowledge and information,” said speakers at the inaugural session of a two-day workshop titled “teaching as a profession” organized by Higher Education Commission (HEC) Islamabad at Nelson Mandela Hall, Arts Faculty Building, University of Sindh Jamshoro.
Faculty members belonging to social sciences participated in the workshop which was presided over by Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Prof Dr Pervaiz Ahmed Pathan and attended among others by Prof Qalandar Shah Lakiyari and Prof Nageena Parveen Soomro.
The Dean congratulated HEC authorities for organizing the workshop. He highlighted the significance of faculty of social sciences in the field of education and urged them to undertake research work to a great extent.
He was of the view that the development of the university depended on the academic excellence of the teachers, which could only be achieved if the teachers took interest in research work.
Dr Pathan was optimistic that the workshop would will be conducted during the two-day moot. He was of the view that research was a tool for the quest of truth, knowledge and understanding.
On the occasion, Prof Qalandar Shah Lakiyari said that the quality education was imparted by the universities in the province but the condition of basic education was deplorable in Sindh. He said that the quality of education in Sindh had deteriorated during the last several years as people associated with education had not played their due role for improvement in the quality of education.
“The main cause of deterioration of primary education in Sindh is the presence of ineligible officials who are in majority. If we ameliorate our primary schooling, it will be beneficial and we will be able to develop and progress”, he said.
Lakiyari further said that without education, no improvement in the society could be expected and added that teachers training was a key factor in improving the standard of education. He said that HEC was playing a leading role in training of teachers.
He hoped that the Sindh University would extend its all-out support and cooperation for the training of teachers and promotion of education.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Nageena Parveen Soomro said that due to commercialization of education, the importance of education had been sidelined. Paying tribute to the senior teachers, she said that they had worked with dedication.
