Thatta’s lone dialysis centre operational again

THATTA: The only dialysis centre of district Thatta has once again started functioning, treating hundreds of patients coming from different districts of Sindh, after the closure of three months due shortage of funds.

A social worker and physician Dr Lal Mir Shah gave Rs 3 million as fund for the first stage of making this centre operational and promised that more funds for this dialysis centre would be provided soon.

After these laudable efforts the dialysis centre established at Makli Civil hospital is now in position of provide special care to renal failure patients. Local philanthropists told PPI that support from both government and private sectors is necessary to run this vital centre on sustainable basis.

The dialysis centre was established at Makli Civil hospital in 2013 and since then the Oil & Gas Development Corporation (ODGC) and British Petroleum (BP) had been funding it. However, three months ago, the oil companies suddenly stopped funding the centre causing hurdles for the patients.

The patients coming to Makli Civil hospital from Badin, Sajawal and other districts had been suffering due to the closure of the centre but its operation again will bring some sort of relief for them.
