Three extortionists jailed for five years

KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) awarded five-year imprisonment with fine of Rs 20,000 to three convicts in money extortion case.

The court found Pervaiz, Nazim and Azam guilty of demanding extortion money of Rs 500,000 from complainant and hurling threats to him of dire consequences in case of non-payment, within the remit of New town police station.

ATC pronounced the verdict after recording evidences, statements of witnesses and hearing arguments from both sides. The ATC judge also imposed fine of Rs20,000 on each convict who will have to undergo an additional six-month imprisonment if they fail to pay the fine.
