Top seed Muzammil survives Talha scare in tennis pre-quarters

Karachi: Top seed Muzammil Murtaza survived Talha bin Asif scare in pre-quarterfinals of Junior Under 18 singles event in the second edition of Kulsum Saifullah Khan National Ranking Tennis Championships 2016 on Wednesday at S. Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex in Islamabad.

Muzamil had to work very hard to topple Talha in the first set eventually winning by 7-6 (4) score. However, in the second set, Muzammil showed his supremacy over his unseeded opponent and won the set by 6-1 score to confirm his place in quarterfinals. He will now face the 7th seed Shoaib Khan.

In men’s singles pre-quarterfinals, favourite Aqeel Khan thrashed Malik Abdul Rehman in straight sets by 6-3, 6-4 score.

Mohammad Muzammil dispatched Shahzad by 6-1,6-4 while Yasir Khan beat Shahid Afridi by 7-5, 6-3 score. Ahmed Chaudhry thrashed Shaheen Mehmood registering a 6-0, 6-2 triumph.

Heera Ashiq overpowered Barkatullah by 6-0, 6-3 score while Mohammad Abid trounced Hamid-ul-Haq by 6-0, 6-1 score. Mudassar Murtaza defeated Syed Nofil Kaleem by 6-0, 6-4 score. Shahzad Khan blanked Jibran-ul-Haq recording an immaculate 6-0, 6-0 victory.
