Traffic police arrest 104 for road violations

KARACHI: Karachi traffic police on Monday initiated drive against offenders and apprehended at least 104 drivers while 90 of them were sent to prison and rest fined on violating traffic laws in the city.

DIG traffic’s spokesman said that on the special directives of Deputy Inspector General of Traffic police Dr Ameer Ali Sheikh; as many as 104 offenders were arrested while violating the law in different areas of East and West parts in the city.

He said 60 drivers were sent to prison on the account of one way violation and 14 were fined, 17 Mini Bus Drivers were convicted on the account of carrying passengers on roof top, five on violation of traffic signal and five on plying Qingqi rickshaws in the city.

He said these drivers were sent to prison for three, four and five days when they appeared before magistrate. He said first of drive was openly message to carless drivers to follow the law otherwise they could be next.
