Traffic police send 85 negligent drivers jail

KARACHI: On the special directives of Deputy Inspector General of Traffic Police, Dr Ameer Ali Sheikh, Karachi Traffic Police have carried out crackdown on violators of traffic laws in the city and they detained at least 105 drivers were detained while 85 of them were sent jail for three to five days, here on Tuesday.

In a statement, DIG Ameer said that Karachi Traffic Police Department have started drive against those drivers who were not abiding by traffic laws and violating them even after court decisions against plying of Chingchis, seating commuters on minibuses’ rooftops, violation of one way and signal crossing. He said negligent drivers are 90 percent behind accidents who in past used to go freed without any charge or punishment.

He warned that no one would be allowed to violate the traffic law anymore in the metropolis. He said traffic police have apprehended as many as 105 offenders while violating the law in different areas of East and West zones in the city.

He said, traffic police have detained 28 drivers on the account of one way violation and 6 were fined. 10 bus drivers were detained on the account of carrying passengers on minibus rooftop, eight on violation of traffic signals and four for plying Qingqi rickshaws. Others were detained over speeding their vehicles in the city.
