Tribesmen play an important role in the country’s defence, Governor

Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan has said that the tribesmen play an important role in the country’s defence and that is why restoration of peace, reconstruction and development of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas were among the top priorities of the government. He called upon the tribal elders to keep vigil eye on both the internal and external terrorist elements and monitor their presence on the FATA soil.

He was addressing a tribal jirga of the elite of Orakzai Agency at the jirga hall of Governor’s House, Peshawar on Tuesday. The jirga was led by MNA Dr. Ghazi Gulab Jamal. Senator Najmul Hassan and Senator Aurangzeb Khan, Additional Chief Secretary FATA Mohammad Aslam Kambow and Principal Secretary to Governor Sikandar Qayum Khan were also present on the occasion.

Earlier, a 25-member delegation of the elite of Kurram Agency also called on the Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan under the leadership of Air Marshal (Retd) Syed Qaisar Hussain Shah.

The Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan declared that the terrorists and militants would be marred and extirpated from the tribal areas at all cost. He said with the coordination of the gallant Pak Army and patriot tribesmen all the anti-state elements would be washed away from the whole country.

The governor said that for the purpose to remove backwardness and to bring developmental revolution in all the FATA sectors, big amounts were being allocated.

He said in a bid to harness the existing water resources in FATA properly, small and medium size dam projects were being initiated which would give impetuous to the efforts to change living standard of the tribesmen.

The governor said the FATA youth were future of the nation and called upon the tribal elite to encourage their youth towards constructive activities. He also urged the tribesmen not to allow their territory to be used for any sort of terrorist and anti-state activities.

The governor directed the authorities concerned to appoint local people on the vacant post purely on merit in transparent way. He vehemently declared that violation of merit in any matter would not be tolerated and those found guilty would be given punishment. He urged the tribal elite to identify if they noticed any kind of merit violation.

The tribal elders expressed gratitude to the Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan and commended his efforts for the reconstruction, rehabilitation and stability of FATA. They also assured their full support to the governor and expressed the hope that within his patron ship the tribal belt would soon be converted into a model developed zone.
