Two kidnappers awarded imprisonment

KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Thursday awarded a 15-year-collective imprisonment to accused Shukat Ali in kidnapping for ransom, illicit weapons possession and police encounter cases.

Meanwhile, co-accused Rehmatullah got collective imprisonemt of eight-year in the same cases.Both the accused were found guilty of abducting Abdul Hameed aged three years within the jurisdiction of Gulistan-e-Johar police station on 8 November 2011 and demanding ransom of Rs 500,000 for his safe release.

The ATC judge pronounced the verdict after recording the evidences, statements of witnesses and hearing the arguments from both sides.

According to the prosecution, the accused had kidnapped Hameed while he was playing outside his home on 8 November 2011 and demanded Rs 500,000 for his safe release. The accused shifted the abducted boy from Karachi to Sukkur where Sukkur police arrested them near Bypass Military road after an encounter on 13 November 2011.

According to the prosecution, the main accused Shaukat had got 10-year imprisonment under Anti-Terrorism Act, three-year imprisonment in illegal weapon possession case and two-year imprisonment in an encounter case, while Rehmatullah got three-year imprisonment in Anti-Terrorism Act, three-year imprisonment in illegal weapon possession case and two-year imprisonment in encounter case. All the imprisonments of both accused would undergo simultaneously.
