LARKANA: Two vital departments of Chandka Medical College Hospital, Larkana, are running without proper heads of departments (HODs), causing hardships to the poor patients of this largest tertiary care teaching hospital of interior Sindh.
These include Coronary Care Unit (CCU) and Nephrology (for kidney-failure patients) Departments. The CCU HOD left on two years leave and Nephrology HOD retired from his service over nine months ago and is now said to be working in Lyari General Hospital in Karachi.
The Benazir Bhutto Medical University (BBMU) authorities have so far not recruited any one to fill this vacuum as studies of Chandka Medical College students are also suffering very seriously besides patients of more than 12 districts. Diploma holding doctors have been made HODs of various departments including Radiology but FCPS doctors are yet to be employed by BBMU to fill the teaching faculty of CMC for the benefit of future doctors and the poor needy patients.
There is no proper Chief Casualty Medical Officer, a post of BS-20, which is lying vacant since long as one influential doctor was posted here on his promotion as Chief CMO, but he only came to join and never returned back. He has now been transferred and posted as Director at Director General Health Services, Sindh. Likewise the post of Police Surgeon (BS-20) was filled on promotion from BPS-19 to 20, but the doctor after joining has no yet been seen since last over six months as a result, medico-legal work is being looked after by a medical officer of BPS-17 who has been posted as Assistant Police Surgeon, a post of BPS-18.
