QEUTTA: UNICEF and Government of Balochistan have signed MoU on child mother nutrition. UNICEF Representative in Pakistan Angela Kearney and Additional Secretary Health Abdullah Khan signed the agreement here Thursday.
DG Health Dr Naseer Baloch, UNICEF Pakistan Specialist Officer Aniahitta Sherzad, provincial Coordinator Nutrition Programme Dr Ai Nasir Bugti, Deputy Programme Manager Dr Sadiq Baloch and others were also present.
Under the MoU UNICEF will procure nutrition related supplies worth more than 0.844 million dollars to support Balochistan Nutrition Programme for mothers and children.
Speaking on the occasion Angela Kearney said agreement signed today between UNICEF and Government of Balochistan would help improve health matters of people particularly mother child nutrition would get a right direction. She said this mutual agreement would help government of Balochistan and would be far reaching about health, education and cleanliness situation.
Abdullah Jan said t is happy occasion that an agreement has been signed about nutrition of mother and child. He thanked Secretary Health Noorul Haq Baloch, Provincial Coordinator Nutrition Dr Ali Nasir Bugti and others who made efforts in this regard. He expressed hope that owing to collaborative efforts we would be able to achieve objectives about nutrition of mother and child and health Department would continue its efforts to give practical shape to this accord.
Dr Ali Nasir Bugti said that a survey was conducted by Health Department Government of Pakistan and Aga Khan University on mother child health According to this survey 16 percent children are faced with serious nutrition problem while40 percent children fall in low weight category while 52 percent children are smaller in length compared to their age.
He said procurement service have been initiate din close collaboration with World Bank and the provincial government and MoUs are being signed for procurement of Ready to Use Therapeutic Food, F 75 and F100 and providing support for capacity building on the supply chain management.
UNICEF would provide nutritional food to provincial directorate of Health Balochistan with World Bank financial assistance. It would include milk f75, f 100, powder full of natural elements vitamins and others.
Nasir Bugti said under the MoU will be supported through the Community Management of Acute malnutrition and the Outpatient Therapeutic Programme. These are most food insecure districts of Balochistan Panjgur, Noshki, Zhob, Killa Saifullah, Kohlu, Sibi and Kharan.
