Uphold of human rights must for peace: Fowzia

Karachi: Respect and uphold of the human rights is a must for global peace, said Aafia Movement Pakistan leader Dr Fowzia Siddiqui here Thursday.

According to details, Aafia Movement held a protest demo in front of the Karachi Press Club (KPC) on the occasion of the international human rights day. Protestors carrying a symbolic coffin of humanity raised slogans against gross violations of human rights by the governments in different parts of the world.

Dr Fowzia said mighty governments in world have crumbled human rights through wars, bloodsheds, illegal detentions and torture and questionable verdicts obtained from courts.

She said according to the charter of the United Nations all human beings have equal rights without discrimination of religion, colour, caste or creed. She said; however, the powerful countries are openly violating these human rights and the United Nations is silent over these violations. She said due to this silence, the UN is losing the confidence of the masses of poor and weak countries.

She said that in the Muslim world, now it is widely believed that the United Nations was formed only to safeguard the rights of the United States of America (USA) and European countries.

She asked how the dream of world peace could be materialized if the rulers of powerful countries continued disrespect to the human rights. She said that from the kidnapping and trafficking of Dr Aafia Siddiqui to her conviction in American court, we see blatant violations of human rights.

On the occasion, a large number of civil society activists carrying the symbolic coffin of the human rights raised slogans and demanded respect to the human rights. They said this symbolic coffin is aimed at to appeal to the United Nations to safeguard the human rights in whole world without discrimination.
