Use of modern techniques and latest research methods during excavation at archaeological sites stressed

Peshawar: Archaeologists and scholars at day-long conference have stressed the need of using modern techniques and latest research methods during excavation at archaeological sites and ancient ruins, and discussed the new discoveries during excavation at various archaeological sites across the province.

The 2nd National Conference on titled: “Field Archaeology 2015 with special focus on Current Archaeological Research in Pakistan, held under auspices of the Directorate of Archaeology and Museums, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in collaboration with Museum Association of Pakistan (MAP) and Association for the Archeological Study in Ancient Societies (ASAS) at Peshawar Museum Hall here on Wednesday.

Director Archaeology and Museums Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Dr Abdul Samad, and Secretary General MAP, Mian Atiqur Rehman chaired the conference. Besides, the conference was attended by archaeologists, researchers, scholars, students of archaeology and officials.

Speakers at conference informed the participants regarding latest discoveries at various archaeological sites, particularly at the world heritage site Bhamala located in district Haripur. They called upon the archaeology students to focus on research writing to assist them in the practical work.

During excavation, an official said that sputa and archaeological manuscript discovered at various sites, especially in Buner, Haripur, Swat, and other regions.

Dr Akbar Durrani while commenting on the conference said that provincial government was taking practical step for protection and preservation of all ancient and rich archeological sites across the province. He assured the archeologists and researchers for extending support in conducting excavation through modern and new research methods.

Dr Abdul Samad highlighted that the conference was aimed at to discuss and share latest discoveries at various rich archeological regions in KP. He expressed the hope that participants were learnt many new techniques and methods, used digging up archeological sites.

Advisor to Chief Minister on Sports, Tourism, Archeology, Museums and Youth Affairs, Amjad Khan Afridi also lauded the efforts of Directorate of Archaeology and Museums for organizing research conference, which was provided opportunity to researchers and scholars to shared their latest discoveries and experience during excavation on various archeological sites in KP. Later, the Director, Abdul Samad he distributed shields and certificate among the archaeologists, researchers and scholars.
