KARACHI: To produce high quality premium drinking water by using state-of-the-art water treatment technologies, Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) on Monday established RIVA Premium Drinking Water Plant at its Ojha Campus.
Riva Premium Drinking Water is processed in a highly hygienic environment using vital and state-of-the-art reverse osmosis (RO) desalination technology which is a semi permeable membrane separation process. The water is purified through 11 stages including chlorination, sand filtration, activated carbon filtration, fine filtration, first pass RO, microfiltration, second Pass RO, mineralization, microfiltration, ozonation and UV sterilization. It completely removes viruses, bacteria, pyroxene and most of the organic compounds. Finally water is disinfected through ozonation and ultraviolet system.
The inauguration ceremony of Riva Premium Drinking Water Plant was held by Vice Chancellor Dow University of Health Sciences Prof Masood Hameed Khan. Deputy Director PSQCA Waiz Akram Ul Haq and senior faculty members of the university were also present on the occasion.
Prof Masood, sharing his views on the occasion, said that water is a source of life. Keeping in view the burden of diseases caused by contaminated water, Dow University has established the water filter plant for the production of premium drinking water for the benefit of general masses. He further informed that Riva water confirms to the highest standard of purity and safety. Every batch is test in laboratory whereas experts ensure the quality as per international standards. The water quality is of high quality and approved by PSQCA Standards. Furthermore, Dow University will provide Riva water to all the hospitals and education institutions on subsidize rates.
Waiz Akram Ul Haq said that pure drinking water sources are subject to contamination and require appropriate treatment to remove disease-causing agents. It is happy to see that Dow University has established state-of-the-art reverse osmosis (RO) desalination technology for water purification.
