Water supply to Balochistan starts after 40 days

DERA MURAD JAMALI: Supply of water to Balochistan began after 40 days of closure. According to details canal system in Balochistan was closed for desilting since 40 days. Supply of water began from Pat Feeder and Kirthar Canals from Guddu and Sukkur barrages. Due to long closure of supply there had been severe shortage of drinking water in rural areas and people faced great difficulties.

Start of supply of water sent a wave of pleasure among the pole in Jaffarabad and Nasirabad.

According to Irrigation sources initially 1000 cusecs of water has been released in Pat Feeder canal and 800 cusecs in Kirthar canal. But due to losses during 2010 and 2012 floods in absence of required water quantum thousands of acres of land has been deprived.

Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch while speaking to media some days ago had said desilting of Pat Feeder canal would be undertaken but this has not started yet. With the result there is apprehension of affect to Khareef season and rice crops.
