Islamabad: The National Assembly was informed Thursday that important crops, including wheat, sugarcane, rice and maize, have registered increase.
Replying to points raised by opposition members, Minister for National Food Security Sikandar Hayat Bosan said that subsidy announced by the Finance Minister on Potash and Phosphate fertilizers will help increase agriculture growth.
He said food processing industry is being promoted particularly in Gilgit Baltistan, FATA and Balochistan.
The opposition members urged the government to focus on agriculture sector as it is the backbone of the economy.
Earlier, the House approved eight demands for grants of the Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage and its attached departments and Ministry of National Food Security and Research.
The demands were moved by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.
