Who will muzzle above the law cops, asks Pasban

Karachi: Taking a strong notice of reported abduction of a medical legal officer of Karachi’s largest state-run hospital in broad daylight by so-called policemen in civvies, snatching from him his cell phone and important documents and forcing him to delete sensitive data about fake police encounters, Pasban President Altaf Shakoor here Monday demanded from the home department, government of Sindh, to muzzle the black sheep in police who run the city of Karachi on the basis of law of jungle.

Dr Shahzad Ali, MLO at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center was abducted from his home in the wee hours of Sunday by law enforcement personnel in civvies who thrashed him, erased the data on his laptop and also took away his cell phone and documents before releasing him.

Dr Shahzad Ali who lives in Lea Market area of Karachi says a few weeks ago, he had conducted autopsies on the bodies of unidentified men killed in ‘shootouts’ with police. However, some police officers were unhappy over the autopsy reports he had prepared.

To punish him for performing his duties honestly, he was abducted, beaten up, and his cell phone, documents and laptop snatched and data on his laptop forcefully erased. The medico-legal officer suspected that his abductors were personnel of the police’s Crime Branch.

However, Additional IG Karachi Ghulam Qadir Thebo has formed a committee headed by the DIG South Abdul Khalique Sheikh to investigate the case.

Altaf Shakoor said the corrupt and politically influenced police of Karachi have been a nuisance for Karachiites. He said these so-called cops consider them above the law. They have given a free hand to abduct, torture and even kill citizens in fake encounters. They arrest and whisk away innocent citizens and release them after extorting heavy bribes. The citizens who refuse to pay the bribes, or could not afford them, are fixed in fake cases and even killed in the fake encounters.

Pasban demanded from the Inspector General of Sindh police to take notice of this law of jungle in Karachi, running on the instructions of black sheep in police department. He demanded to shun the police from political people and cancel the appointments of all cops that have been appointed on recommendation of different political parties during the tenures of different governments. He asked to post honest and professional police officers to save the Karachiites from the lawbreakers who carry out their nefarious activities by wearing the sacred police uniform.
