Workshop on bioinformatics concludes

KHAIRPUR: A two-day seminar, posters exhibition on small variation for big changes and workshop on “Bioinformatics: Tools and Techniques in Modern Research”, which was organized by Department of Microbiology in collaboration with Federal Urdu University of Science & Technology, DOW University of Medical & Health Sciences, Karachi, European Society for Evolutionary Biology and Fulbright USA, concluded at Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur premises.

Prof. Dr. Parveen Shah, Vice Chancellor, SALU, Khairpur presided over the inaugural session while addressing the work shop Dr. Parveen Shah said, this training workshop is designed to provide theoretical and practical knowledge together.

She said, our University is renowned for its pride heritage of commitment to research and learning and bioinformatics as described by our scientists. It is an interdisciplinary field that develops methods and software tools for understanding biological data.

Dr. Nusrat Jabeen from Federal Urdu University for Sciences & Technology, Karachi and Dr. Mushtaque Ahmed from DOW University of Medical & Health Sciences, Karachi, Prof. Dr. Yasmeen Faiz Kazi, Dean, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Prof. Dr. Abdul Hussain Shar, Prof. Dr. Nisar Ahmed Kanhar, were the Resource Persons of the workshop and seminar.

Prof. Dr. Miandad Zardai, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Main Campus presided over the concluding session of the workshop and Prof. Dr. Yasmeen Faiz, Kazi was the chief guest on this occasion.

Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Zardari said, this training workshop covered an important field of advanced biological sciences.

Dr. Yasmeen Faiz Kazi said, bioinformatics is both an umbrella term for the body of biological studies that used computer programming as part of their methodology. Dr. Kazi said, this training workshop was focused on principles, practical consideration of DNA sequence.

Prof. Dr. Nisar Ahmed Kanhar, Chairmen, Department of Microbiology said I am optimistic that this training workshop and seminar will provide a value-added in the capacity building for future researchers and professional career. Dr. Muneer Ahmed Qazi and others also spoke on the occasion.

The certificates among the 40 participants were also distributed. Prof. Dr. Ghulam Murtaza Maitlo, Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Khushk, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences & Arts, Prof. Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah, Prof. Dr. Noor Shah Bukhari, Prof. Dr. Taj Mohammad Lashari, Prof. Dr. Noor Ahmed Shaikh, Prof. Dr. Ikhtiar Ghumro, Prof. Imdad Chandio, Mrs. Shahida Mangi, Dr. Farooque Ahmed, Akbar Ali Soomro, Dr. Nisar Ahmed Shaikh, Dr. Javed Akhtar Samoo, Waheed Ahmed Ghumro, Faheem Jatoi , Ejaz Mahar, Sahib Khan Shaikh and others attended the concluding ceremony.
