YDA continues protest at JPMC

KARACHI: The Young Doctor Association (YDA) of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) on Saturday continued their protest demonstration on second consecutive day against non-payment of their salaries and also boycotted the OPD services.

The unpaid House Job Officers and Postgraduate (PG) Doctors under the banner of YDA gathered outside the Najmuddin Auditorium and staged a protest against the hospital administration and health department government of Sindh.

A large number of patients who came to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) had to return because the out-patient departments (OPDs) were closed on account of a protest by house officers and other doctors to demand pending salaries.

Talking to the media persons YDA leader Dr Yousuf said the doctors were protesting against indifferent attitude of provincial health department authorities and the JPMC administration.

He said good number of doctors have been deprived from their salaries since last six months while some were not being paid from last three months.

He said doctors have been facing finical crises and it is very difficult for them to continue their job without salaries. He said doctors have boycotted the OPDs and elective surgeries, while emergency department has not affected by their protest.

He said doctors will continue their protest demonstration in next week till payment of their pending salaries.

An administrative official of hospital said finance department could not release funds on time therefore payment of stipends had been delayed. He said doctors who hired by JPMC administration will get their salaries from next week.

Focal Person, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Dr Jawaid Akhter Jamali, was not available for comment.
