10party alliance demands Karachi be handed over to army

KARACHI: The 10party alliance on Monday unanimously demanded of Election Commission of Pakistan ECP to handover Karachi to army 10 days ahead of general elections.

At joint press conference at Idara Noore Haq, Jamaat-e-Islami JI Karachi chief Muhammad Hussain Mehanti, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz PMLN general secretary Saleem Zia, Jamiat Ulemae Islam-Fazl JUIF leader Qari Muhammad Usman and Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan leader Shah Owais Noorani said that there is need to deploy army at all polling booths during the polls across the metropolis.

JI leader Muhammad Hussain Mehanti said that those parties, which believe in ideology of Pakistan, are united and demand of ECP to conduct free, fair and transparent elections. He said that all political activities should be given military cover in the present law and order situation in Karachi. He said that ECP is not complying with Supreme Court orders.

PMLN Saleem Zia said that whole Karachi is sensitive, so army should be deployed in the metropolis 10 days ahead of general elections. He said that they do not want symbolic presence of army in Karachi but demand army presence at all polling booths.

Saleem complained that Defense Housing Society DHA had banned public meetings, placing of banners and posters in all eight its sectors. He was of view that DHA was violating their political rights. Saleem demanded of ECP to take notice of such acts.

JUIF leader Qari Muhammad Usman said that Karachi was presenting a scene of fire and bloodshed. He said that a conspiracy had been hatched to delay general elections. Usman said that in such a situation army should be deployed in Karachi 10 days before general elections.

Shah Owais Noorani said on the occasion that whole Karachi had turned into war zone. He said that army should be deployed in Karachi immediately. Noorani was of the view that transparent elections could not be conducted in the presence of current situation.

JI leaders Naseem Siddique and Nasrullah Shajee were also present on the occasion.
