QUETTA: Provincial Secretary Finance Dosten Jamaldini and Acting DG PDMA arrived Mashkel Thursday. They have arrived here on the special directives of Caretaker Chief Minister Nawab Ghaus Bakhsh Barozai to review losses caused by the earthquake in the area and supervision of ongoing relief activities. Chief Minister has directed concerned authorities not to spare any effort in relief and rehabilitation of earthquake hit people.
A Spokesman of Government of Balochistan has said eleven people have been killed and 24 injured due to earthquake in Mashkel. Injured have been shifted to Quetta for better treatment facilities.
Spokesman said that Mashkel population has 26 thousand souls while there are two thousand houses. Earthquake has badly damaged properties. Survey has been completed 80 percent to assess. According to it more than 700 houses have been totally destroyed and more than 400 were partially damaged.
According to Spokesman Chief Minister would request for provision of funds for building of destroyed and damaged houses at his meeting with President Zardari and Prime Minister Hazar Khan Khosa. Federal government assistance would also be sought for building road between Nok Kundi and Mashkel estimated to cost Rupees 1.5 billion. Federal government assistance would also be sought for hospital project in Mashkel.
Spokesman added that there exists no metalled road between Nok Kundi and Mashkel and journey is made on desert areas.
Recent rains have badly damaged this passage and thus there is delay in transportation of relief goods to the area.
He added that PDMA with available Rupees 20 million funds was sending relief goods including food, medicines and tenets.
Spokesman added that situation in the affected area is under control. Provincial Government, Pak Army and FC are engaged in relief activities and access to every affected family and individual is being ensured so that no one is left from assistance.
