SIALKOT: The district police continued its weeklong massive crackdown against the bricks kilns’ owners in Sialkot district here. Today, on the second day of this crackdown the police have registered as many as 126 more separate cases under the 12 Bonded Labour System Act 1992 against the owners and managers of bricks kilns on the charges of taking bonded and forced labour. They were illegally detaining the poor labourers and their families, paying them less wages against their extended hours of labour and harassing the poor labourers by giving them the advanced payments.
Additional SP Sialkot Asad Sarfraz Khan disclosed this while talking to the newsmen here Thursday. He said that these bricks kilns were located in district’s all the four Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils here.
He said that the Sialkot police had registered as many as 247 separate cases against the bricks kilns owners and managers on Wednesday yesterday and more 126 separate cases against accused brick kilns owners and managers on Thursday today , raising the total number of these cases to 373.
He said that the Sialkot police have yet arrested as many as 225 accused owners and managers in these cases and sent them behind the bars. The further investigations are underway, in this regard.
On Wednesday, the Sialkot police had launched a weeklong massive crackdown against the bricks kilns owners following the massive complaints of taking bonded and forced labour.
District Police Officer DPO Sialkot Muhammad Gohar Nafees was himself leading the police raids on almost all the bricks kilns located at urban and rural areas of Sialkot district’s all the four Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils here along with the local senior journalists, human rights activists and representatives of the labour unions.
