Karachi: Professor Abdul Samad, Founder Executive Member of Pakistan Cholesterol Awareness Society PCAS has said that 17.3 million suffer from heart disease globally.
He said cardiovascular disease is rated at the top in the list of most lethal diseases, causing loss of precious lives, stressing the need for a positive change in lifestyle, if heart disease and stroke are to be prevented. He also called for preventive measures and awareness, along with exercise on a daily basis.
World Health Organization statistics said that the mortality rate in Pakistan was 25% due to cardiovascular diseases.
Unhealthy eating, smoking, high blood pressure, obesity, and lack of exercise are the main causes of cardio related diseases.
There is a need for healthy eating, abstinence from tobacco, regular cholesterol checkups, and daily exercise. Greasy chicken foods, ghee, oil, sweets and chocolates should be avoided. Obesity be controlled, and more vegetables, fruits, fish should be used.
