Karachi: As many as 200 appeals were filed with the election tribunal against rejection and acceptance of nomination papers of the candidates for coming general elections till last day for filing applications. However, the tribunal also decided a few of the applications.
A two member election tribunal comprising Justices Faisal Arab and Ghulam Sarwar Korai issued notices to the Election Commission of Pakistan and the respective returning officers who rejected the nomination papers of the appellants.
The tribunal dismissed the plea against acceptance of nomination papers of Makhdoom Ameen Faheem and his son Jamil Zaman from NA218 and upheld the decision of the returning officer. In another application, filed by Jawed Ahmed against the acceptance of nomination paper of former chief minister Liaqat Jatoi from PS76 and NA233 Dadu, the tribunal also maintained the decision of returning officer and dismissed the plea.
In an application, the tribunal rejected the objections against PPP’s Malik Asad Sikandar from NA233 and sustained the decision of the returning officer.
Former provincial finance minister, Murad Ali Shah candidate from NA231, PS71 and 72, who was disqualified due to holding dual nationality, has also approached the tribunal. The tribunal, however, issued notice to the ECP and returning officer on his plea.
However, the tribunal issued notices to the ECP and respective returning officers in applications of PPP’s Imdad Pitafi and Aijaz Pitafi from PS52, Bindiya Raina from PS114, Ramzan Palari from NA231, PS21 Jamshoro, Imdad Ali from NA223, Shahid Shah from NA253, Mir Khan Khoso from PS81, Suleman Bhallai from NA231, Ajaz Ali from NA233, PS52,52, Salman Abdullah from NA258 Malir, Muhammad Yousuf from NA235, PS81 and other candidates .
Arshad Mughal has also filed an application challenging the decision of returning officer who rejected the nomination papers of the Former President and chief of All Pakistan Muslim League APML Pervez Musharraf from NA250.
Applicant, Yasmeen Shah has also challenged the acceptance of nomination papers of former national assembly speaker Fahmida Mirza from NA225. However, another applicant approached the tribunal against nomination Sharmila Farooqui from PS126.
