200m people need three times meal: seminar told

HYDERABAD: Dr AQ Mughal Vice Chancellor Sind Agriculture University Tandojam SAU has said that more than 80% population of Sind invest their monthly income only for purchasing food items and most of the Sind areas are lying below poverty level.

He was addressing the participants of a one day awareness seminar on “Integrated Food Security Phase classification IPC” organized by FAO and World Food Program WFP in collaboration with Sind Agriculture University Tandojam on Thursday at senate hall SAU Tandojam.

He said that 20o million people have need of three times meal, however, still peoples are sleeping without or insufficient food. He further added that the economic instability has increased the crime rate.

He also emphasized that there is no food crisis in Pakistan. This problem of food insecurity is only due to mismanagement. Shahbaz Bokhari National coordinator and Dr Inayatullah Rajpar Chairman Soil Sciences and food security analyst said that food security is influenced by the several factors, including extreme natural disasters, increasing population, climate change, land degradation, poverty, law and order situations and economically problems.

Dr Kazi Suleman Memon, Liaqat Bhutto and others also addressed the seminar.
