250 shopkeepers fined; 16 jailed

KARACHI: On the directives of Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, crackdown against profiteers selling milk, poultry and other edible items to citizens at exorbitant rates is being continued by deputy commissioners of five district and and assistant commissioners of all subdivisions of the metropolitan.

A statement released by commissioner office on Wednesday said that in latest actions, 49 milk sellers, 51 fruit sellers, 73 vegetables sellers, 32 edible item sellers, 40 poultry sellers and 03 meat sellers and two flour sellers were fined for selling goods above official rates.

Commissioner Karachi said that 250 shopkeepers were challaned for profiteering and Rs261,200 fine was recovered from them, while 16 others were jailed.

Commissioner Karachi said that actions against profiteers would continue till they ensured the sale of commodities at fixed rates.
