269th annual Urs of Shah Latif begins from Dec.28, delegates from India, Iran and Germany to attend literary conference

Karachi: On the occasion of 269th annual Urs of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, the greatest poet of Sindh, provincial Culture Department is organizing many attractive and fascinating cultural events to pay homage to the mystic and the legendary poet. The Urs celebrations will commence on Friday, 28th December at Bhit Shah, situated 50 kilometers north of Hyderabad. The celebrations will continue for three days.

Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Speaker Sindh Assembly, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Minister Culture Ms. Sassui Palijo; Pir Aftab Shah Jilani, MNA, Minister Antiquities, Makhdoom Jamiluzzaman and other elected representatives, government officials, intellectuals and artists, will participate in these events.

Abdul Aziz Uqaili, Secretary, Culture Department, said that the contingency plan and all possible security arrangements have been made in collaboration with the concerned departments, particularly the district administration and local police, to organize various cultural programs in a peaceful and befitting manner.

Foreign delegates from Iran, India and Germany have been invited as guest speakers in Second International Conference on Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.

He further said renowned scholars, poets, writers and other literary personalities from all provinces and different regions of Pakistan have been invited to participate in the moot.

Leading intellectuals from Sindh including Dr. G. A. Allana, Dr. Habibullah Siddqi and Dr. Fahmida Hussain will join other guest speakers.

The Secretary further informed that the department is also arranging a “Sughar Kachehry” Folk Poet’s Conference and establish a Cultural Village and hold “Mach Kachahry” bonfire gathering of folk poets on the first day. There will be music program on all three evenings of the Urs. The renowned legendary singer and queen of melody, Aabida Parveen, and young and rising singing star of sufi songs, Sanam Marvi, besides many other famous singers and folk performers will enthrall the audience, particularly the lovers of Shah Latif. Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, has been invited for distribution of Shah Latif Awards, among the successful recipients of the biggest award, conferred by Government of Sindh, Culture Department.

Muhammad Ali Manjhi, Director General Culture said that 17 books on Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai have been published. These include an original work by Dr. N. A. Baloch comprising of various articles and research papers on Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. “Moon Mein Toon Mojood”, a compilation of research papers, read on Culture Department’s organized First International Conference on Shah Latif, held last year and reprinting of English translation of Shah Jo Risalo by Ameena Khamisani and Shah Jo Risalo by Dr. H. M. Gurbukhsahi. He said all these books will be launched during 269thUrs celebrations.

In addition to various events and programs organized by Culture Department, bookstalls and shops of local handicrafts shops will also be set up in the Cultural Village. Appropriate arrangements for food and clean drinking water have also been made for the visitors. Generators have also been installed to overcome the problems of electricity outages.
