KARACHI: The Consul General of Malaysia Abu Bakar Mamat hosted the 56th National Day of Malaysia ceremony recently in Karachi.
The reception was also held in conjunction with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Malaysia Day to commemorate the formation of Malaysia. Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Sindh Minister for Education and Literacy, was the guest of honour.
During his speech before the crowd, the Consul General highlighted the warm and cordial bilateral relations enjoyed by Pakistan and Malaysia. Pakistan was among the first country to recognise Malaysia’s independence and to establish diplomatic relations 56 year ago.
The Consul General said that Malaysia is a home to the largest Pakistani diaspora community in South East Asia. The number is likely to exceed 100,00 people of which 3,000 are high-end professionals holding key positions in various sectors. In his reply speech, Khuhro commended the economic achievements of Malaysia and there are many areas that Pakistan wishes emulate.
Among the notable guests present at the reception were Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Minister of Local Government Owais Muzaffar, Senator Nasreen Jalil, members of Diplomatic Corps and captains of industry.
