60% Pakistanis think unclean drinking water is the cause of diarrhoea/cholera, Poll

Islamabad: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 60% Pakistanis think unclean drinking water is the cause of diarrhoea/cholera.

A nationally representative sample of men and women, from across the four provinces was asked “What do you think are the reasons behind diarrhoea/cholera?” Responding to this, 60% said unclean drinking water, 36% said unclean utensils and crockery, 36% said germs and 36% said stale food. 22% said heat, 23% said not taking care of health/hygiene and 3% did not respond.

The study was released by Gilani foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2646 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during Sep 23, 2013 – Sep 30, 2013. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
