Aafia’s mother, sister offer kidneys to Edhi

KARACHI: Dr Aafia’s mother Ismat Siddiqui and sister Dr Fowzia Siddiqui have expressed concern over the news about Abdul Sattar Edhi’s kidney failure.

In a joint statement issued on Thursday, they prayed for his complete health recovery and said that Edhi dedicated his life to serving humanity while he had also offered himself instead of Aafia to the US.

“Edhi’s this gesture has touched our hearts deeply, so we offer to donate a kidney to our national humanitarian hero Abdus Sattar Edhi,” the woman and his daughter said.

They told reporters they would meet Edhi and Prof Adeeb Rizvi regarding the process. Aafia’s mother said: Edhi’s life is precious to Pakistan as he is the person who turned individual humanitarian service into a collective industry.”

Ismat and Dr Fowzia appealed to the Ulema and the nation to add a special prayer for Edhi during Friday prayers.
