Agriculture to be developed on modern lines to ensure food security: Ahsan Iqbal

Islamabad: Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has said that agriculture will be developed on modern lines to ensure food security and increase exports.

Addressing the opening session of regional workshop on “Youth and Agriculture: Challenges and Opportunities” in Islamabad on Tuesday he said that agriculture is the mainstay of the country’s economy. He said that we can bolster our exports through value addition in agricultural production.

He said there is a dire need to maintain interest of youth in the agriculture sector; otherwise‚ the country could face productivity issue. The Minister said a rural enterprise program will be launched to help the youth earn their livelihood.

Speaking on the occasion‚ Chairman Pakistan Agriculture Research Council‚ Iftikhar Ahmad said that agriculture has been a major contributor in the GDP growth and we have to convert this sector into a primary industry to further enhance the growth rate.
