Islamabad: Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid assured the Senate that after consultations with media organizations and journalists‚ he will resolve the issue.
Replying to the point of order raised by leader of the opposition Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan that the House is not in order because media is boycotting the proceedings following registration of an FIR against a private TV channel‚ Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid said FIR has been registered on the directives of Balochistan High Court.
He said that he has spoken to the Balochistan Chief Minister and discussed the issue who will send him the related documentation. He assured the House that after consultations with media organizations and journalists‚ he will resolve the issue.
Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid visited media gallery in the Parliament and held discussions with media representatives.
He assured the media persons that he will discuss the issue with Balochistan Government and extend full cooperation for resolution of this issue.
After the assurance of the Minister‚ media ended boycott of the parliamentary proceedings.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan informed the House that all political parties including PML-N are on the same page as far as freedom of expression and information is concerned.
He said independent media is important component of the democracy and assured that the report on the basis of which the FIR has been registered will be presented in the House.
The opposition members staged a token walkout from the House on this issue.
The Senate was also informed that government has already made it clear that all unverified SIMs would be blocked and there is zero tolerance in this regard.
Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan told the House during question hour that telecommunication companies would be made accountable in this regard. He said that over 199 million SIMs have been verified so far whereas unverified SIMs will also be brought on record.
